EDEN — Archaeologists announced Monday that a newly translated stone tablet discovered near the entrance to the Garden of Eden has upended centuries of speculation about why humanity’s first couple left Paradise.
The tablet, believed to be the world’s oldest Homeowners Association violation notice, details a lengthy list of infractions committed by Adam and Eve before their eventual eviction.
According to the translation, the HOA initially issued only a written warning after the couple harvested fruit from a protected tree without prior approval.
Things escalated quickly.
Additional violations included harboring an unregistered serpent, installing unauthorized fig-leaf attire without architectural review, hiding in community landscaping during an inspection, and repeatedly failing to comply with Paradise Estates’ published community standards.
The final line of the tablet is carved in unusually large letters:
“PENALTY: EXPULSION FROM PARADISE.”
Lead archaeologist Dr. Ira Digger said historians have long focused on the fruit while overlooking the true culprit.
“It wasn’t one mistake,” Digger explained. “It was a pattern of noncompliance. Once the HOA got involved, there was no coming back.”
A second tablet appears to contain minutes from the Paradise Estates HOA board meeting.
One translated passage reads:
“If we let one resident eat from the protected tree, next thing you know someone will build an unauthorized gazebo.”
Another states simply:
“Property values must be protected.”
Researchers were equally surprised to learn the serpent received a separate citation for soliciting without a permit and spreading misleading information to residents.
When asked about the discovery, Adam declined to comment, instead pointing toward Eve.
Eve immediately pointed toward the serpent.
The serpent blamed the media.
Archaeologists say this is the earliest documented example of everyone insisting the problem was someone else’s fault.
The excavation also uncovered a smaller stone fragment that may finally explain one of history’s oldest rumors.
For centuries, people have repeated the story that Eve came from one of Adam’s ribs.
The newly translated inscription offers a different—and considerably less scholarly—version:
“It wasn’t a rib. We were sharing a McRib.”
When reporters asked where the rumor originated, Eve simply smiled, shrugged, and said:
“You know how rumors start.” 😉
At press time, archaeologists announced they had begun excavating a nearby site believed to contain Noah’s rejected building permit after the Floodplain Preservation Committee ruled his ark exceeded the neighborhood’s maximum boat length by approximately 445 feet.
